When you think about it this way...

Lunch time, and I'm watching my Facebook feed. Summer brings out lots of random weather reports, from all parts of the US and my former country of residence, Canada. It reminds me of one of the questions I sometimes get about having moved to California – usually along the lines of "aren't you afraid of earthquakes?" Well, the fact that Ottawa also had earthquakes aside, given that I've now had over two years free of blizzards, ice storms, freezing rain, whiteouts, sub-zero temperatures, humidity, tornado watches and warnings, and Stephen Harper (okay, all of the party leaders, let's be fair)... my answer would have to be "no." :) Seriously, by comparison, eastern Ontario is training grounds for Survivor. I'm including the politicians in that statement.

If you have a couple of minutes, check out this video on Gizmodo. I was at Ellin and Jer's last night, and Jer showed it to me. As Gizmodo's Adam Frucci explains, "This installation shows all of Lufthansa's flights at once, all projected in 3D on a 180-degree, 46-foot-wide screen. And damn is it cool." Seriously COOL.

It's all psychological

Post title -- shout-out to SG and high school. ;) And it was that same era, as some of you know, that I first put the SPPNTCJ website online. The history and recognition of the SPPNTCJ are both documented on the site, and now I have something new to add to the list. Last night I discovered that the SPPNTCJ is mentioned in Psychology and the Challenges of Life: Adjustment in the New Millennium, a psychology textbook by Jeffrey S. Nevid and Spencer A. Rathus. (If you happen to have this textbook handy, it's mentioned on page 203 of the 2007 hardcover edition.) I'd like to send out a big thank you to the authors for keeping the SPPNTCJ a part of academia. I very much appreciate it!

Follow me on Twitter!

Hi everyone... wow. I'm sitting here, glued to the TV, watching election results come in. I can't even say how happy I am to be living in the US, living history. Once the night has come to a close, and the results are in, I'm going to write about today. I want to remember everything about the day, where I was and what I was doing as history was made.

For now, though, I wanted to let everyone know that you can follow me on Twitter - I'll likely update that daily or at least several times a week.

It's back!

What's back? The SPPNTCJ -- The Society for Preventing Parents from Naming Their Children Jennifer. Also known as a site I kept between 1996 and 2000.

I'm still waiting for some application approvals for adding site advertising, etc., and can't wait to get rolling with the Jennifer stories, Jennifer links, and SPPNTCJ members pages. So go on, have a look, and be sure to add the News page feed and the Jennifer stories feed. If you like it, please spread the word!

Airline fever

Hi there everyone! It's been a very busy week over here. I'm a little wiped, just got off plane #10 in 5 (or 6?) weeks in the wee hours of yesterday morning, coming back from Chicago! I was there for Internet Retailer Conference, which was a great experience to have, both booth time and sitting in on speaker sessions.

Right now, though, airports, airplanes and I may need a bit of time off from each other. Or at least for this weekend! ;) I am getting a really good sampling of a lot of the airlines in North America, though! In the last 12 months, I've been on flights (sometimes more than one) with all of the following: Southwest, Northwest, American, Alaska, US Airways, United, Air Canada, and WestJet. Otherwise known as my list titled "These are the Daves airlines I know, I know, these are the Daves airlines I know." One day I'm going to have to write up a post about things to do on an airplane when you're grounded on the tarmac for an hour without Internet access and mildly bored out of your mind, that won't get you kicked off the plane. Tip #1 is to make sure you've rented a movie from the iTunes Store. I watched "Stardust" on my flight out to Chicago, and girly as it's going to sound, absolutely LOVED it!

I'm on lunch right now, and as we head into the weekend on this beautiful Friday the 13th, I wanted to wish you all a beautiful, awesome weekend. :)
